The Bottom
04:38
|
|||
All the grace, all beauty I can muster, can’t compare with you
dancing steps, floating weightless, only one I serve to
rope me, chain me, throw away the key
the expanses in your eyes have changed what it means to be free
If I’m the bottom, who’s the top
if I’m the sell-out, who’s the flop
if I’m the robber, who’s the cop
save your face it’s my disgrace if you
Can’t be there then don’t
count the days, pass the hours, seconds on the minute
the weeks seem like days in the pit when you’re in it
no don’t let me see the light, I want to be here
solitude only interrupted by your presence has wrung out all the fear
Chorus
circumvent, feel, taste the pain oh
circumvent, throb, whip, and strain oh
circumvent, snap, rip and stain oh
miscreant, don’t make the same mistake
Chorus

The Color Red
04:15
|
|||
I cannot help to mend the views that govern
You cannot change the way your privacy's shunted
The desert it confuses the senses
To override just to collect your pence and
Believe in that which never shows it's face
Chorus:
It's just the color red
reflected in your eyes
Reflected in your heart
Reflected in your pry
It's just the color red
Burnin' through your disguise
The way you come along
The lies are amplified
It's just the color red
Witch hunts are inspired by the lyers
Propaganda's shouted by the criers
Knowledge is just truth despised
To remedy your rotting minds
And cushion your descent into obscurity
Chorus
Bridge:
If you think they're bluffing here's your guarantee
You'll see how far they go to claim their property
People are property
Green inspires growth that battles desire
Yellow it controls the unprovoked fire
Red's the blood that oozes through borders
Contradicting the holy one's orders
White's the only color that can save

The Artist
05:06
|
|||
images woven of dreams fall
onto the page like so much water
swept and smeared by the brush
carving into the paper an existence
Can you capture my spirit
scribble it down onto the canvas
can you see into my head
own my visage with a pen tip
He etches sun-swept fantasies in graphite
nimble fingers scribing heaven
to gleam the brilliance of his mastery
Oh how we long to touch
Can you capture my spirit
scribble it down onto the canvas
can you see into my head
own my visage with a pen tip
cannot compare to his ability
never match his grace
poets and prophets fall to naught
but never see his face
Can you capture my spirit
scribble it down onto the canvas
can you see into my head
own my visage with a pen tip

I got a guy named Jimmy
lives behind my right eye
starts yellin’ high water
every time I start to cry
yeah, I can’t get nothing done
when old jimmy starts to wail
trippin’ on time starts a bangin on my mind
just a settin’ up myself to fail
crack my head and let the people out
crack my head and let the people out
crack my head and let the people out
oh yeah, let ‘em out of me
then there’s Christine
Hangs out in my top teeth
sits all day counting
makin’ sure it’s the same beneath
No, I just can’t stop clickin’
enamel starts to melt
pain is reignin’ high brings the water to my eye
and a Jimmy he starts to yell
Chorus
I can’t take it all in stride
they all keep slippin’ on my pride
finally makin’ sense to me
take it all one floor down pretty baby,
cause it won’t go to the top for me!
Chorus
Then there’s this other guy
he lives in my left ear
always tell me where to go
and sometimes what to fear
when he gets to talking
about the fire and the brimstone
I tell him Billy go back to sleep
there ain’t no way that you could ever know!

Lay Waste
04:14
|
|||
Lay waste, see his shield with blood it cakes
lay it down on the battlements, turn the other cheek
stray taste, strung across the empty face
make then clean with the metal it's, hard to drag around
It’s not, the way he stands and
it’s not, the way he plans and
it’s not, the way he, reprimands
it’s good old fashioned cunning
Make haste, get them inside the pearly gates
leave a trace of the suffering, all can gather ‘round
frayed base, tattered edge cloth marking place
square it up for another who earned his badge of heart
Chorus
Trade space, edge reflected in the blade
sopping wet from the battle he, pulls the queen of hearts
same weight, crumpled up there on the plate
dress in shreds from the suffering, all have gathered round
Chorus

District Line
03:23
|
|||
Veins take on the prism
Of hearts' electric roar
Three years gone I still don't know
What I was searching for
Cross the map
Mind the gap
May I have your seat?
My heart is weak!
Calling here, cross the years
Does your heart still beat with mine?
Will you meet me there someday
At the end of the district line
Looking back, fade to black
From a memory sublime
Hope your travel card is good
To the end of the district line
London bridge has fallen
Kentish Town's too far
Waterloo's defeated me
In Richmond shines the star
Through the dark
To the park
There's a vulpine mien
in the sylvan scene
Calling here, cross the years
Does your heart still beat with mine?
Will you meet me there someday
At the end of the district line
Looking back, fade to black
From a memory sublime
Hope your travel card is good
To the end of the district line

Doors
04:14
|
|||
I opened up the cupboard today
Filing through what we had
I think it's gonna be the only way
I guess it really wasn't that bad
Looking back, it's been a while
The film grain can't hide my smile
Couple years, you call him yours
And I’ll shrug, and shut more doors
I'll light up the porch lamps
Hoping for some great unrest
But the men outside put the clamps
On the brightest, tightest and best
Looking back, it's been a while
The film grain can't hide my smile
Seven years, the rain still pours
And I shrug, and shut more doors
The fight was one I could not win
At least if I gave it enough
But it wasn't losing that killed within
But winning on your bluff
Looking back, it's been a while
The film grain can't hide my smile
Seven years, the rain still pours
And I shrug, and shut more doors
no I shut it if I can’t lock it then I’ll hafta
beat it outta you beat it outta you
Looking back, it's been a while
The film grain finally hides my smile
Twenty years, I couldn't ask for more
And I'll forget, and close the last door.

Dos Besos
04:37
|
|||
En su puerta me dio anoche
La mujer que adoro un beso,
Y en la calle el hambre pude
Calmar de un anciano ciego.
Llegué a mi casa llorando,
Concilió dichoso el sueño
Y sentí sobre mi rostro
El más dulce de los besos.
AH!
Pensé que fuera mi amada
Quien me acariciaba en sueños,
Busqué su faz en la sombra
Y vi... ¡la imagen del ciego!
Two kisses
At her door, last night,
the woman I love gave me a kiss
and out on the street, the hunger
of an old blind man I could appease.
I came home crying,
sleep came like a blessing
and I felt on my face
the sweetest of all kisses.
I thought it was my sweetheart
who caressed me in my dreams,
I looked for her face in the shadows
and I saw ... the image of the blind man!

$7.50
02:51
|
|||
He stumbles in, hat on his head
wears his badge, shirt tucked in
hits the clock types in his number
sighs as his shift begins
manager creeps up behind him
“Get those hands under some water
once you’ve gotten both gloves on
could you be a pal and clean the fryer?”
Chorus:
Was it worth 7.50 an hour
to put collection in it’s place
was it worth 7.50 an hour
to rid yourself of the taste
He walks over to the metal beast
pits of molten oil writhing
kneels before the tanks of grease
pulls the switch and sends it flowing
stepping back he grabs the hose
rinsing out the starch and grime
scrubbing walls inside the steam
he wears thick gloves grow hot with time
Chorus
He fumbles, hose slipping from his hand
“god help” but none took demand
shrieking he slipped and he fell
covered from ear to arm in hell
Chorus
Was it worth giving up half your face

Again
04:05
|
|||
Again
I think this way again
A friend, he quotes a song
so I listen,
Trying to relate,
But the notes just drift on by
As the music rattles on
It's all about some guy you see,
Who grew up too damn fast.
He lived his youth to its fullest,
But the time,
The time just didn't last.
Again
I feel this way again
A friend he names a book,
So I read it,
Trying to relate
But the words just drift on by
And the book seems way too real.
It's all about some guy you see,
Who outgrew his old town.
I'd like to think he loved them all,
But the place,
The place just got him down.
Again
I see your face again
A friend says call you over
So I call you,
Hoping you'll relate
But my voice just drifts on by
Cause your music's on too loud.
Even if you don't understand,
I hope you'll still be there.
Don't sit back and apologize,
Just show,
Just show me that you care.
Again
I think this way again
A friend, he quotes a song
so I listen,
Trying to relate,
But the notes just drift on by
As the music rattles on

eggshells lie broken on the tile
as is the past turning present condition of your smile
tattered and torn lie the corners a wishing well left dry
why would you stop to say goodbye
I gave you all of me
I gave you all of me
I gave you all of me
I gave you all of me
now I want it back
All that you had to do was wait
left lying naked on your shortly empty dinner plate
never enough to abate the waves of burning pain
I thought I’d leave the message plain
I gave you all of me
I gave you all of me
I gave you all of me
I gave you all of me
now I want it back
now I want it back
I came here alone
and alone is how I want to leave
I found you alone
and alone is how I’ll leave you
oh----
I gave you all of me
I gave you all of me
now I want it back

It Comes To Me
02:37
|
|||
It’s just one too many times
ya try to get me gimme gimme on the run
yeah it’s another one bites the dust motha’ luva’
can you get a little on my tongue
hit me once, hit me twice
yeah, baby won’t blow on the dice
oh luck, it’s fickle thing
It comes to me
It comes to me
through my TV, oh
It comes to me
yeah it comes to me
woah now here’s another little thing
that’s a givin’ me the hickory slips
one brain stutterin’ between my ears
puts a bristle up and down the tips
hit me once, hit me twice
yeah, baby won’t blow on the dice
oh luck, it’s fickle thing
Chorus
stop one time and lemme’ unwind it’s
never worth the work of art
drop your drink take a second to think
why ya gotta throw the horse and cart, oh
hit me once, hit me twice
yeah, baby won’t blow on the dice
oh luck, it’s fickle thing

Kyrie
03:38
|

he finds good things to say
beat back and break away
fake hustle games we pray
but no consistency, NO!
knuckles turning red
pounding their way into his head
pleasures got taken by the side
falling without warning the crash coming
and then the pain
I can’t find a piece astray
miles walked, not miles gained
bring us back into the day
captain search for the away,
and on to kyrie
he finds good things to say
beat back and break away
fake haste in games we pray
(build into shriek)
but no consistency, NO!
knuckles turning red
pounding their way into his head
pleasures got taken by the side
falling without warning the crash coming
and then the pain
I can’t find a piece astray
miles walked, not miles gained
bring us back into the day
captain search for the away,
and on to kyrie
(instrumental break)
I can’t find a piece astray

Losing Battle
03:55
|
|||
With each rising footstep
I get closer to the top
with each losing battle
I may suffer but I’ll never stop
Making something out of nothing was never quite a
strong suit that I had
Taking with me just as much as I can carry as long as
noone and I mean noone has a hand in my bag
winded bending trees caressed by simple melodies
erupt from the earth casting happy shade
Forest filled with light a breeze to cool the after-bite
a stroll on down through the fine black dust we’ve made
Chorus
when the oil smells like bullets, do we really
have the option to stay the course
when the water turns to fire right before us, can we
still try to hold back the bleeding, do we really have that kind of force?
Was it ever enough to know when the silence turns to voice
take your loved ones in your arms
one direction sinking low in the mirror, write it down
take a collection, say you had no other choice
spend all my days, dealin’ with you
can’t break the chain that you’re pullin’ me to
just hoping that you can follow it through
don’t waste my time I can stomach it too
(repeat)
Chorus
Making something out of nothing was never quite a
strong suit that I had
Taking with me as much as I can just as long as
noone and I mean noone had a hand in my bag

This Suit
03:39
|
|||
has anyone got the time to sit and fret about the
way snow cones don’t really work no?
the syrup always ends up in the bottom of the cup
clock men runnin’ to and fro takin’
just enough time to yell at you from their open car window
ya know it isn’t the first time
Find the help you need
take the help you seek
And with this suit I can fly higher than the
people downtown try to keep my on the ground
can’t the keep pace man? I’m pullin’ away
And with this suit who could dream bigger gotta
grab it with both hands, pick my own winner
no perception’s gonna get me down
harvard ain’t got no business like the busy-ness of
one pale life wind sprinting to the next strife
take a ticket and wait in line for the pain
he calls like this and she calls like that when you
wake up in the morning reachin’ for the sun -
-oh no he don’t like that
pebbles in their place
Find the help you need
take the help you seek
Chorus
Instrumental break
